Ice Ice Baby!

January 24, 2013
We had the first Ice Storm I remember in my lifetime here in Utah.  It was crazy!  I hadn't been watching the news or weather so I had no idea it wasn't just a wet winter morning and I sent the bundled boys out to walk down to the bus stop.  I always watch out the window until I see them get onto the bus and I kept waiting and waiting for the bus to come but it never did.  So Lauryn and I drove down to pick them up and drive them to school.  Traffic on Redwood was horrific. It took me about 30 minutes just to get to the school.  The roads were slick but I didn't realize this was an "ice storm".  Everything just looked wet. Like it had just finished snowing and it was kind of melting.  As the day went on it got much worse.  I, being pregnant, stayed in to prevent me from falling on the ice.  It was so icy everywhere, I decided to pick up the boys at the bus stop after school so they didn't keep slipping on their walk home.  As I backed out of the safety of the garage, I slid in the Expedition all the way down the driveway to the street.  I slowly nudged my way down the rest of the street to the stop. As the kids exited the bus one by one they went down on the ice like clockwork.  Kids were crawling and scooting the best they could just to get home.  It was bad.

There was a solid inch of ice on every surface outside.
We had multiple activities cancelled that day because of the weather, including my Enrichment activity that we'd been planning for months.  I had made 75 cream puffs that morning for the activity that I now had to shove into my freezer.  But it was an exciting day weather wise.  It was a first for us to see an ice storm in Utah!
