Apparently, it's all in his "brain". I need to remember that next time I am tempted to send him to time out. And all this time... I just thought he was making poor choices...I still have A LOT to learn!

Finally! An explanation...
Spencer spends a good amount of time in time-out these days. He "thinks" that he is in charge of everyone, and sometimes has less than "nice" things to say. It gets very frustrating because I had this fantasy...that parenting would get a little "easier" as the kids got older. I was totally off in thinking that. But Spencer was nice enough to send this note under his bedroom door the other day (while he was in time-out) with a bit of an explanation...

That is so cute! Poor kid. He's just going through a bit of a rough patch right now. I love that he apologized with a note. When we misbehaved when we were young, especially if we fought with each other, my mom would send me and my siblings into our rooms to write our side of the story. We didn't receive any other punishment, no matter what the letters said, but it gave us a chance to feel heard and gave us, and my mom, the quiet time that was needed. Looks like your child is brilliant and came up with the technique all on his own.
Beth, why don't you and Nate get over it already and just appoint Spencer CEO and president of your home. Then you wouldn't have to waste so much of HIS time putting him in timeout. At least you know he has the brains to handle the job. ;)
What a fun challenge you have, raising Spencer!
