Okay... let's wrap up the school week with ONE more bus story....
So yesterday was Spencer's "Birthday at School Day" since his real birthday is on Sunday and Monday is Labor Day. So I sent him to school with his treats for his class and his teacher did a ton of fun things for him. He had so much fun. His teacher made a special birthday hat for him (he loved it). And she gave him one of those big balloons with the rubber band attached so you can bounce it back and forth(a green one, his favorite color:).
So after his party at school, Spencer gets back on the bus and one of the other kindergartners grabs his hat off his head... and RIPS it into three pieces!!! After repeatedly asking the kid to give it back, Spencer finally got it from him just before his bus stop. And THEN as he was going to get off the bus... the kid takes Spencer's balloon away from him and tried to pop it!!! I could see Spencer through the bus window, struggling to get off. But I didn't find out this had all happened until he got off the bus. I WAS FURIOUS!!! Why?... Why are kids so mean!!! I felt so bad for Spencer. He was so sad about his hat. Thanks goodness he was able to get his balloon back. And after half a roll of scotch tape, the hat was back into one piece again.
AHHHH! Sometimes it's hard to have the quiet little boy who keeps to himself. Because he gets picked on and won't defend himself. But I would rather that he's shy and quiet, than loud and has to show off by ruining someone else's birthday!
Is it wrong of me to just ride the bus with him until he starts high school?

Oh, I am sorry it has been a rough week. I had a similar situation with my boys and luckily my friend lead them to their class. It is kind of scary to send them off, but I guess we have to do it!
OMG! Beth, I will take him to school. I will come and get him everyday so that he won't need to ride the bus again. AND, when we get there, he can show me who this kid is and I will take care of it. NO ONE MESSES WITH SWEET LITTLE SPENCER!
You have sucessfully changed my mind about home schooling. Are you in yet? :)
Beth! Oh, my heart is breaking for poor Spencer. What a tough week for him! Don't you hate mean kids? Bless Spencer's heart, I hope he had a good birthday. Hopefully this week will be smoother.
What a rotten thing to do to a kid on his big day. You are so right. Having the meek child is hard, but better than being the mother of the bully. I'm starting to wonder what is best in this situation. On the one hand, kids learn amazingly valuable things when they go through bullying like that but on the other hand some go nuts-o and are never the same. Is it possible to drive him to school everyday? How far away is his school? Good luck with this.
It is so sad how young they have to learn that the world can be cruel, but at least when they're young they bounce back faster... I HATE meanies!
P.S.- I also know you have the faith that your kids will be watched over in your absence, and thanks to your sweet inspired friend for helping Spencer find his way... my heart was sinking during that whole story!
