The House of the Lord

For Family Home Evening this week, we talked about the Temple.  I have been wanting to hang a picture of the Temple in the kids' rooms for a while and I thought it would be more meaningful to them if we reviewed the purpose of the Temple and it's signifiance first.

So I gave a lesson on what things we can do inside the temple (be baptized for people who died, get married, etc.)  I showed them several beautiful pictures of rooms inside the Temple and different Temples around the world.  They were really attentive.  Then we drove up to the Bountful Temple and walked around and talked more about it.

When we got home, I gave them the pictures of the Temple that I had framed for them and we hung them on their walls.  They thought it was pretty cool and I hope that some of the things we talked about actually sunk in:).

After Family night, I was helping Preston get ready for bed and he was saying that he can't wait to get baptized when he turns 8.  I told him that it will be so amazing.  And he asked about the baptismal font and if the water is cold.  I told him it will be nice and warm and Daddy will be right there to help him so he doesn't need to be scared.  Then Preston said, "So when I get baptized, all my skin will wash away?"  And I said, "Oh no Bud!  The water is just like a warm bath.  It won't hurt you and your skin will just be nice and clean after."  And Preston said, "Well, that's what my teacher said...She said when I get baptized, my skins will wash away."  And I said, "Do you mean your sins?"  And he said, "Oh yeah, my SINS."  I reasurred him that he is right!  His sins will be washed away, but his skin should still be intact:).

I love Preston!! That is so funny. I think it is a great idea to hang pictures in the kids room. Matt and I are excited for the Brigham City temple to be finished so that we can take the kids for the open house.

SO interesting the way kids misunderstand a word and hold a certain idea. I'm glad you got the skins vs sins smoothed out! :)

What a great trip to the temple. Yes, I COMPLETELY think that heading to the temple grounds as a family makes for a much more meaningful picture. The picture you're printing for their room will be one they talk about, for sure!

President Monson suggested hanging a picture of the temple in your childrens' rooms at last Conference... way to take heed.

Preston is hilarious! Such smart kids you have... taking it all in, and then some!

What a great lesson. That's really neat that you were able to do that.
P.S. I loved Preston's interpretation of skin and sin. :)
