I have a 5 year old!!!

Spencer turned 5 yesterday. I can't believe that he is 5. That means I'm old. We had Spencer's first "friend" party this year. We have been talking about it for a long time (pretty much since last September) and Spencer decided months ago that he wanted to have a Dinosaur party so that's what we had.

First, we played the Stegosaurus Stomp, then we had a dinosaur egg hunt, then we had a dinosaur pinata. Top that off with pizza, dinosaur cupcakes, ice cream and presents and you've got yourself a dinosaur birthday party. It was so much fun. Spencer had a great time.

The boys are checking out the dinosaur eggs they found and discovering the baby dinosaurs inside.

Pinata time... GO Spence!

Preston's giving it a whack.

It took a while...

Jackpot!!!

Happy Birthday!

Spencer got a BIG Stegosaurus, his favorite dinosaur.

Before the Dinosaur egg hunt, to set the mood I explained to the boys that a mommy dinosaur had hidden her eggs in our backyard and we had to find them all. Then later when we were hitting the pinata, one of the little boys, Jacob, asked if the pinata dinosaur was the same dinosaur that laid all of the eggs in our backyard. We laughed and I told him that it might be the same one. Then I realized that I had basically just taught these innocent 5 year olds that first, it's okay to steal a mommy dinosaur's eggs, and now we are going to beat her to death with a bat... NOT a good moral for a bunch of 5 year olds to pick up on. Sorry parents!

Then later that day we had the family over for some more dinosaur cake, ice cream and presents. Talk about a fabulous birthday.

Spencer wanted a green Stegosaurus cake, this is the best I could do. It was pretty cute and he was happy with it.

Thanks family and friends for making Spencer's birthday Dino-rific!!! He had a wonderful day.

Happy Birthday Spencer!!! We love you!!!

"thats the best I could do." What in the world? That cake is AMAZING! Andrew says he wants a dino party. I may have to hire you to make me a cake like that!

I agree with Amy... if I ever hear "that's the best I could do" crap come out of your mouth again... it's on! I'd kill for skill like that.

I'm so glad his party turned out how you both wanted... it looks amazing. I just hope someday that all of Marlee's male gendered friends will enjoy a princess party one day, because she has way more boy friends than girls.

P.S.- I hear the years between 5 and 15 go really fast... so enjoy him!

Wow, that is some dinosaur cake. Maybe you can teach me some of your baking skills. Sounds like a fun party.

The cake is DARLING!! Trust me, I will be calling you for cake ideas for Owen. and then asking you to make it. :) Owen really enjoyed himself. And everytime he told someone that he got to go to his first bithday party, he told them about the egg that turns into a towel. (we haven't even tried it yet. he just gets excited thinking about it. funny!)

Wish we could have been there! We were there in spirit. Great job on the cake! I thought the mother dinosaur/egg hunt/pinata story was hilarious!

Nice cake! You did awesome! Well, that is pretty messed up that you taught them to steal a mommy dino's eggs and then beat the mommy to death. How funny! I catch myself saying things like that, too. Don't worry, they'll all work it out in therapy once they grow up. :)
