Last Day of School Part 1

Spencer just finished first grade!  He is in a French immersion program at school and he LOVES it!  It has been a good challenge for him. He has always excelled at school and I generally try not to brag but he deserves to be bragged about in our family's "book of life".

Spencer got pneumonia during the school year and missed an entire week of school plus a few other days here and there when he was sick.  He was still able to hand in every homework assignment.

Spencer got straight A's on every report card this year.

Spencer read 5,618 minutes during the school year and can read 95+ words per minute with a 99% accuracy (benchmark for 1st graders is 60 words per minute with 95% accuracy).

He had a spelling pre-test every Monday, and a spelling test every Friday and out of roughly 25 spelling tests, each test consisting of 10 words, Spencer mispelled ONE word out of 250 the entire school year. He got most of the words correct each week on the pre-test alone.

Mademoiselle Smith pulled me aside several times during the year to tell me how she couldn't believe how quickly Spencer caught on to French.  She kept asking if his family spoke French at home because he was advancing so quickly. He also has an amazing accent and is able to enunciate each French sound and he sounds just like he was born speaking French.

Spencer excelled at each subject and really enjoyed math, science, and music (but French was favorite).

Spencer also started taking piano lessons during the school year and catches on so quickly. He can figure out notes or songs quicker than I can "attempt" to help him during practice at home.

He also played a full soccer season, and took swimming lessons this school year which he loved. His swimming teacher said he has amazing "kicks" in the water.

Spencer continues to make strides becoming more social and making friends at school.

On the second to last day of school, his French class put on a program in French.  Spencer was the main character in a short skit they performed.  It was so fun to listen to him and his school friends speak French.

Doing his thing up on stage:)
Here he is off the side watching the other first grader's program
This is a pretty good shot of Spencer and Mackensie (to his right).  She will marry him someday he says...

 Spencer and Mrs. Smith
and here he is with his "favorite teacher of all time" Mademoiselle Smith (on whom he has a crush)

We loved both of his teachers but especially Mme. Smith.  She was wonderful!  And I was able to get Preston in her class for next year.

Spencer did awesome this year and we are so proud of him!  He is so excited to start 2nd grade, but he's having a hard time letting Mme. Smith go...:')
