So today I happened to get 20 minutes of free time while Lauryn slept and I asked the boys if they wanted to make some zucchini bread. They LOVE helping me cook (and I certainly have NOT been cooking lately). And they love zucchini bread so it was a win-win. They loved it.
Here are their mini loaves ready to go into the oven (they made sure to put aprons on first).
Into the oven they go...
Checking the progress...
The masterpieces...
Mmmmmm....
Well worth the wait!
My mom always used to let me cook and bake with her. She had little pie pans and cake pans that were just my size. And I loved being in the kitchen with her. So I love that my boys enjoy it too. Although there is a much bigger mess when they "help"... I have to put my OCD aside and enjoy the moment. Because one day... I will be WISHING they still had a desire to be by my side in the kitchen.
It was so nice to have a few minutes to do something fun with them. I hope they understand that I won't be sitting on the couch feeding Lauryn every hour forever. Someday she will be making zucchini bread with us! And at some point... we might even leave the house again:). Now that's something to look forward to!

I need to make more time to do that again. If I find a moment to actually cook something, then it still isn't enough time to allow them to "help".
I love Prestons smile! He's so funny.
I really need to cook with my kids more. Here I am just repeating the cycle of being a "cooking hater"... sometimes I wonder what the Lord was thinking when he gave me, the least domestic person ever, two girls who I need to teach to be wives and mothers... HA!
Really if I didn't laugh, I may cry. Good for you Beth... you're my hero as always!
What a cute story. Your boys are lucky to have a mother like you. You are making great memories. I wish I could stop by and give you a break sometime. I would love to hold sweet Lauryn and I'm sure Mike would play and wrestle around with those boys! Hopefully one day. ;)
What an interesting new experience for all of you, adjusting to Lauryn. I'm glad you were able to give the boys some quality time. I do think baking together is one of the most fun activities. I'm glad you have fond memories of that with your mom too. It's amazing how much you appreciate your parents and all the little moments once you become one.
