Memorial Day

Well we kicked off Memorial day weekend a little early this year. LDS Hospital invited us to their annual memorial service on Thursday for all the patients they lost throughout the last year. And since I delivered Addy at that hospital, they invited us to come. At the end of the service, all of the families got to tie a ribbon on a wreath in honor of their loved one.

Here is Spencer tying on Addy's ribbon.

Then today, we spent a good chunk of the day hanging out at the cemetery.

It was definitely a hard day, but at least we can say we got our first Memorial Day behind us.

I found this poem and I wanted to share it because it pretty much sums up all my thoughts.

I Thought of You Today

I thought of you today,
but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday,
And will tomorrow too.

I think of you in silence
And make no outward show.
For what it meant to have lost you,
Only those who love you know.

Remembering you is easy,
I do it everyday.
It's the heartache of losing you...
that will never go away.

Thank you to Grandma Martin for bringing Addy some of her beautiful flowers.

That's awesome, Beth. It's cool that the hospital has a memorial service like that. I can't imagine what this was like for you. I was a slacker and I really didn't formally remember anyone today. I like the poem-how it shows that celebrating someone for memorial day is nothing special, because you honor them every day in your own quiet way. But even though you do it quietly all the time, I'm glad you went through the formality of it all today. Your boys look SO cute in those pictures and Addy's grave is so well decorated.

What a cute family! You decorated Addy's spot so cute. What cemetery is she at? I dont think I ever heard. Glad you made it through your first Memorial Day and what a cool little program LDS hospital had for the families.

oh and I read your comment on my blog. I doubt she will forget about Zula Patrol, but one good thing about finding out there is new episodes on thursdays is we dont have to watch all the other ones! :)

Your family really looks darling by Addy's grave. All those flowers around are just gorgeous.

One day at a time Beth, just one day at a time.

P.S.- Loved the poem. I'm sure Addelyn is so honored that she has you as a mom.

That post was such a good reminder about what the "day off" was all about- I too love the pics and the poem sums it up perfectly.
